Philanthropic Programs

Chapter members manage numerous philanthropic programs.  Members come together with varied talents, background, abilities and interests normally during daytime hours for meetings and volunteer work.  The Philanthropic Alternative Committee offers flexibility for working members and those who prefer to offer their volunteer time in the evening. Philanthropic programs include:

  • Dental Health Center offers low-cost dental care and education for school-age children in our on-site facility.
  • HALOS (Helping a Little One Succeed) is a reading tutor/mentor program.  Our members work 'one on one' with students to improve their reading skills.
  • Health, Humor & Happiness provides companionship and entertainment to the senior residents of Orange.
  • The Kids on the Block™ offers life-sized puppet shows teaching 3rd and 4th graders about life's issues.
  • Links to Learning offers an opportunity to enhance and/or develop new or different approaches to middle school instruction with scholarships for teachers and staff.                                      Application for Middle School Teachers 
  • Operation School Bell® supplies new clothing to students in need. Students receive clothing, hygiene kits, shoe vouchers, a backpack filled with school supplies and a book.
  • Orangewood Children & Family Center allows our volunteers to visit and provide emotional support and activities for resident children of all ages.
  • Scholarship Awards provide financial aid to deserving high school students in the form of college scholarships including technical, academic and fine arts.
  • Special Assistance provides financial support for urgent household obligations to residents within the City of Orange.

  • Christmas is for Sharing provides Christmas gifts for Orange Children & Parents Together (OCPT) families in need.
  • Handle With Care provides bags of personal care items for mothers with children in the neonatal care unit of UCI Hospital.
  • Operation Hug provides teddy bears for Orange Police and Fire Department distribution.

Assisteens Auxiliary
 provides volunteer opportunities for 7th - 12th graders in our local community.  In addition to participating in Health, Humor & Happiness, Operation School Bell and Orangewood Children & Family Center, philanthropic programs unique to the auxiliary include:
  • Treats in the Streets distributes candy at the annual Halloween event in Orange.
  • Ronald McDonald House serves a home-cooked meal and provides activities for residents.
  • House of Hope offers crafts, games and snacks to resident children.
  • Special Projects have included; gifts to families during holidays, shelving, games, and books for the Teen Room at CHOC Hospital and handmade blankets for Project Linus.
Assisteens fund their programs by working in the "Now and Again" Thrift Shop and our chapter's annual Boutique 


Orange Blossoms Auxiliary provides an opportunity for young professionals, recent graduates and stay-at-home moms to participate in community service.  In addition to participating in Operation School Bell and Ronald McDonald House, philanthropic programs unique to the Orange Blossoms include:
  • Project G.I.R.L. promotes healthy Growth, provides Inspiration, teaches self-Respect and encourages Literacy. Examples of Project G.I.R.L. events include outreach to the girls' ward of Orange County Juvenile Hall through a motivational speaker workshop, hands-on creative expression series with pregnant women at Casa Theresa and prom dress distribution to in-need and at-risk teens in the community.
  • Building K.I.D.S. targets high-risk and underserved children with a focus to promote the importance of Knowledge-based programming, help define a strong sense of personal Identity, encourage the Development of physical and social activity and aid the process of growing into Self-reliant individuals.  Examples of Building K.I.D.S. events include an annual Storytelling and Book Give-A-Way supplying new books to over 300 area youth, Adopt a Pre-School during the holiday season at Orange Children & Parents Together (OCPT) providing over 90 children with toys, pajamas and a book, as well as providing over 400 pre-school aged children with shoes during the year.
